Mahj Studio Terms of Use

Welcome to Mahj Studio. These Terms of Use govern your use of the Mahj Studio website and services. By creating an account or using Mahj Studio, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Eligibility and Accounts

Mahj Studio is intended for users age 13 and older. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you should use Mahj Studio only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian.

You are responsible for providing accurate account information, keeping your login credentials secure, and for activity that occurs through your account.

You may not use Mahj Studio to break the law, access another user's account, interfere with the service or its security, use bots or scraping tools without permission, or attempt to reverse engineer or extract Mahj Studio's software, algorithms, databases, or recommendation logic except where permitted by law.

2. Educational and Practice Service

Mahj Studio is an educational service designed to help users learn and practice American Mahjong. Features may include simulated gameplay, training hands, Compass guidance, Charleston guidance, hand evaluation, strategy recommendations, scoring, statistics, and progress tracking.

Mahj Studio's recommendations and educational guidance are intended to help you learn and practice. They are not guaranteed to represent the only, optimal, or objectively best decision in every game situation. Mahjong rules, strategies, and conventions may vary between players, groups, and rule sets.

3. Mahj Studio Intellectual Property

Mahj Studio owns all right, title, and interest in its original intellectual property, including its software, source code, recommendation logic, algorithms, databases, interface designs, graphics, branding, text, educational materials, training materials, and other original content and features.

Mahj Studio may also use third-party materials, software, or services owned by or licensed from their respective owners.

Using Mahj Studio gives you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable right to use the service for personal, non-commercial purposes only. It does not give you ownership of Mahj Studio or any of its intellectual property.

You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, sell, license, publish, commercially exploit, create derivative works from, or otherwise use Mahj Studio's intellectual property without permission, except where applicable law expressly allows it.

References to third-party names, trademarks, organizations, games, or rule sets are for identification or educational purposes. Unless expressly stated otherwise, Mahj Studio is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by those third parties.

4. Privacy and User Data

Information associated with your account and use of Mahj Studio is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

You retain ownership of information or content you provide to Mahj Studio. You permit Mahj Studio to store, process, and use account and gameplay information as reasonably necessary to provide, personalize, secure, maintain, and improve the service.

We may use aggregated or de-identified information to understand how Mahj Studio is used and improve the service.

5. Donations, Future Paid Features, and Third-Party Services

Mahj Studio is currently free to use and may offer optional donations to support continued development. Payments are processed through Stripe and may be subject to Stripe's own terms and policies.

Mahj Studio may introduce paid features, subscriptions, memberships, or different service tiers in the future. We do not guarantee that all current features or services will remain free indefinitely. Any applicable pricing, recurring charges, and material payment terms will be disclosed before you purchase or subscribe to a paid offering.

Donations are voluntary and do not provide ownership, equity, voting rights, or a guarantee that any particular feature or improvement will be developed.

Mahj Studio may also rely on third-party services such as authentication, hosting, payment, email, or other technology providers. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their independent practices or availability.

6. Availability and Changes

Mahj Studio is continually developing. We may add, change, remove, suspend, or discontinue features or portions of the service at any time.

We do not guarantee that Mahj Studio will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every browser or device. We may also update gameplay logic, recommendations, scoring, training materials, or other content as the service develops.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mahj Studio is provided “as is” and “as available.”

We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, availability, or suitability of the service. Mahj Studio does not guarantee that use of the service will produce any particular learning, gameplay, or performance result.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

8. Limitation of Liability and Indemnification

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mahj Studio and the persons involved in operating or developing the service will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use Mahj Studio, including loss of data, profits, goodwill, or reliance on gameplay or strategy recommendations.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mahj Studio's total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid directly to Mahj Studio during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold Mahj Studio harmless from claims, losses, liabilities, damages, and reasonable costs resulting from your unlawful use of the service, violation of these Terms, or infringement of another person's rights.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

9. Suspension and Termination

You may stop using Mahj Studio at any time.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, misuse the service, create a security or legal risk, or engage in conduct that could harm Mahj Studio or its users.

Provisions relating to intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, and other terms that reasonably should survive termination will continue to apply.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arkansas, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

Any legal proceeding relating to these Terms or Mahj Studio that is not required by law to be brought elsewhere will be brought in an appropriate state or federal court in Arkansas.

11. Changes, General Terms, and Contact

We may update these Terms as Mahj Studio develops or our practices change. When we do, we will update the Effective Date above and provide additional notice when appropriate.

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining terms will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision does not waive our right to enforce it later.

These Terms and our Privacy Policy form the agreement governing your use of Mahj Studio unless another written agreement expressly applies.
